At a time when our environment is increasingly homogenized and dominated by electronics and computerized type forms, designer and artist, Simon Jennings, takes a fresh look at the real world to present hundreds of found letter forms from the built environment in a remarkable collection.
Created for all those interested in visual matters, this is a beautifully produced and refreshingly tangible alternative to the virtual world, presenting a treasure trove of type forms that can be found in our everyday lives.
Imaginative and inventive - Outdoor Types is not just a book but an artwork in itself.
Simon Jenning, trained as a graphic artist and is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London. He has conceived, designed, and produced many awardwinning art and design related books. Presented here are about 90o snap shots, edited from a pictorial archive celebrating a life-long fascination with forms in the physical world. Jennings took the photographs featured here over a number of decades, and this book is his tribute to the many anonymous and uncelebrated sign writers, lettering artists, and typographers everywhere.
